Our Story

In November 2011, inspired by FlatStanley.com, a class of international students in Copenhagen, Denmark made flat versions of themselves (Flatties) and sent them around the world. They hoped to discover more about themselves and the world around them.

This blog documents their adventure.

While we are a mix of different cultures and nationalities, we all currently share a city. We live in beautiful Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

Denmark, if you did not already know, can be found right here:

Denmark is located in the north of Europe, in a region known as Scandinavia:

Here is what Denmark looks like:

Can you see Copenhagen? It is on an island called Zealand and lies very close to Sweden. In fact, we can see Sweden right across the water on a clear day!

In Denmark, the national language is Danish; as we go to an International School, we speak English the majority of the time in school, but we do take Danish classes three times a week. Outside of school some of us speak English, Danish, French, etc.. with our families and friends. If you ever want to visit Copenhagen, do not worry about not knowing the language; it is unusual to find someone here who does not speak English!

Here is what the Danish flag looks like:

Places to Visit

The Island of Bornholm
Bygningskultur Danmark #1 - Hammershus - Location1.jpg

Hammershus is an old Danish castle in Børnholm. It is half broken and very ancient; on the side of the castle are two statues, they look like this:

Danish Food:

This is a danish traditional food, it is called: flødeboller. Flødeboller are traditional chocolate covered marshmallows. The top is chocolate, inside is egg white and on the bottom is a kind of wafel.
Danes top it with coconut, but the flødeboller itself can also be a topping for other things such as ice-cream. Hmmmmmm

Drømmekage (Dream Cake) is also a very popular Danish traditional food. It is a very light cake with a chewy topping. Drømmekage is one of the Denmark's most loved foods.
